Whilst installing an MRI facility at The Three Counties Equine Hosital (TCEH) we had the opportunity to develop two new trolleys. We designed and manufactured an adjustable height equine trolley and a low level fixed height trolley to meet this customer's scanning requirements.
The majority of our trolleys have been previously designed for human use so the increase in weight capacity to one tonne and the physical size was a good challenge for our staff. TCEH's Mark Georgetti believes that the adjustable equine trolley is the best on the market, an accolade that the Wardray team are proud and pleased to receive.
TCEH MRI FacilityTop
The TCEH project involved the design and construction of a new MRI facility. The aluminium RF cage was 7 metres x 7 metres with an internal height of nearly 4 metres. The RF door was a double doorset with sufficient opening (2.3 metres x 2.7 metres) to accommodate an equine trolley with a sedated horse. The doors were 2.7 metres high to allow for walking a horse into the scanner room for a standing scan. The door was finished in cream laminate.
The inside of the room was clad with laminated steel panels. The steel panel offered impact resistance qualitites and the laminate gave a wipe clean finish to the room. This also reduced the need for wet trades on site during the construction phase.
The RF Window 1200mm wide x 900mm high allows a clear view of inside of the room from the control unit.
We also provided oblong LED light panels running around the perimeter of the room, giving the impression of high windows but with the benefit of controllable/dimmable lighting.
24 pairs of electrical filters where installed along with 2 medical gas filters and 3 open wave guides.
Practical additions to the room included a utility trolley, a surgeons' stool and an IV stand all from our MR accessory range which is conditional to 7T.
The scanner supplied and installed by Imotek International Ltd. is an Esaote G-Scan Vet, including a maintenance-free open permanent magnet (0.25T). This is the world's first rotary veterinary MRI scanner designed specifically for horses.
Bespoke Engineering for TCEHTop
In addition to the structual work for TCEH, we designed and manufactured two equine trolleys: an adjustable height trolley and a low fixed height trolley. The low fixed height trolley enables stifle scanning. These trolleys were bespoke to meet the customer's specific requirements.
