Relax & View® at the James Cook HospitalTop
In August we completed an installation of 57 Relax & View® ceiling panels in the newly commissioned Oncology facility at the James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough.
It has long been accepted that relaxing images have a calming effect on patients. These images have proved popular in imaging facilities which commonly do not have windows by flooding light into these areas and relieving claustrophobia.
Panels can be wall or ceiling mounted (see image), dependent on the layout of the room. The latest Relax & View® image collection use LED panels to ensure excellent light quality and low energy consumption.
On this occasion our client specified local inspiring images which patients could relate to. Wardray formatted the images and incorporated them into our ceiling panels. Our specialist installation team installed them into three oncology suites and one CT room.
West Wales Power Operated DoorsetTop
In July we designed and installed a power operated doorset and a Dorma window for a CT scanner at West Wales Hospital, Carmarthen.
This project delivered a UK designed and manufactured doorset ensuring that Wardray had total quality control over the product and the customer had engineering and customer support on hand in the UK. The doors contained 2.5mm lead, included the usual safety systems with a laminated finish.
Caring for the Animals - Shielding for Veterinary PracticesTop
It is pleasing that the value placed on the health and well being of humans also extends to our animals. In recent years Wardray has seen the demand for shielding diagnostic equipment in veterinary practices, particularly MRI scanners expand significantly.
We were very privileged to install the RF cage and x-ray shielding at the renowned Fitzpatrick Veterinary clinic, near Guildford. Inspired by the renowned and innovative Vet Dr Noel Fitzpatrick, this practice has been featured on BBC television as pioneers of animal treatments. Although Wardray products are behind the scenes, it is pleasing to know that we are part of the quintessential British desire to love and care for animals.
This year we installed an RF cage at a veterinary clinic in Derby working with A & S Enterprises as the main contractors.

Bespoke Shielded Workstations For Major Trauma Centre at St George’s HospitalTop
Wardray Premise were delighted to be approached by St George’s Hospital in South West London to supply bespoke shielded workstations for their new £1.4m resuscitation unit.
The unit, the most modern in London, has been expanded and refurbished as part of the hospital’s development as a major trauma centre. The new facility provides eight resuscitation bays each with a large bed space to allow emergency care staff to manage the most complex of cases. The unit also houses a dedicated overhead x-ray system built into the ceiling of the department.
Wardray’s brief was to manufacture eight (3.5 metre long x 2 metre high) lead shielded workstations, which also act as privacy screens. The units required 0.5mmPb lead and the wheels are stabilised by large castor brakes. Despite each workstation weighing half a tonne they are surprisingly easy to manoeuvre! The workstations were delivered on time and on budget.
Rachel Gerdes-Hansen, St George’s Healthcare Capital Projects Manager designed the workstations after consultation with end users.
” The workstations had to butt up to a privacy panel that needed to be as deep as the custom made worktop at the rear of the trauma area. Clinical staff advised me of their requirements with regard to shelving and racking and the incorporation of a whiteboard to record information. I am extremely pleased with the finished product. ”
The workstations are a typical example of the Wardray Premise bespoke shielding solution based on the individual needs of the end user.
